Women's Golf Sixth After Day One at NEC Championships
Whelan leads CCSU with round one 84, tied for 12th
Senior Tara Whelan shot a round one score of 84 and the Central Connecticut women's golf team sits in sixth place after the first day of the 2018 Northeast Conference Women's Golf Championships on Friday. The Blue Devils shot a team score of 347, nd are just six shots back of fourth place.
The Championships are being held at the LPGA International Course in Daytona Beach, FL. Fairleigh Dicksinson leads the pack with a score of 320, five shots better than Sacred Heart Heart. St. Francis University is third (329), followed by Wagner (341), LIU Brooklyn (342), CCSU (347) and then St. Francis Brooklyn (490).
Whelan's 84 led the Blue Devils and is good for a tie for 12th place overall. Freshman Meghan McLean shot 86 and is in a tie for 19th place. Classmate Olivia Gardenhour fired an 88 and is tied for 21st place. Senior Cecy Gutierrez shot an 89 and is tied for 23rd place overall.
Freshman Alexa Brown fired a 92 and sits in 29th place.
Round two of the tournament will take place on Saturday.
