Women's Golf in Eighth Place After Day One at Lonnie Barton Invitational
Cecy Gutierrez leads the Blue Devils after day one
The Central Connecticut women's golf team sits in eighth place after the first day of the Lonnie Barton Invitational on Monday. Central shot a team score of 336. There are 13 teams in the field. The tournament is being played at the LPGA International Golf Course in Daytona Beach, FL.
Central's day one score of 336 is good for eighth place, just three shots back of seventh and six shots back of fifth placed Siena College. Fairleigh Dickinson leads the field with a score of 311, followed by North Carolina A&T (314), Sacred Heart (324), Bethune-Cookman (324), and then Siena and Evansville. Wagner, Southern Indiana, St. Francis U, Midway University (A) and Midway University (B) round out the field.
Senior Cecy Gutierrez leads the Blue Devils with a day one score of 81 (+9). She is in a tie for 16th place overall. Freshman Alexa Brown shot a score of 82 and is tied for 20th place overall. Senior Tara Whelan shot 83 and is tied for 24th place.
Freshman Olivia Gardenhour fired a 90 and classmate Meghan McLean shot 92 in the first round to round out the scoring for CCSU. Freshman Roxanne Garceau shot a 99.
The second day of the tournament will take place on Tuesday.
