Women's Golf Finishes in Tie for Seventh Place at Tignanelli Towson Invitational
Blue Devils climb one spot in standings on day two
The Central Connecticut women's golf team moved up one spot and finished in a tie for seventh place at the Tignanelli Towson Invitational following Monday's second and final round. The Blue Devils improved four strokes as a team and shot a day two scored of 316, to finish with a two round total of 636.
The tournament was played at Eagles Nest Country Club in Phoenix, MD, and is a par-72.
Towson won the tournament with a team score of 605, followed by Bethune-Cookman (607), Lamar (612), Lehigh (615), Longwood (618) and Navy (622). The Blue Devils and Bobcats were tied for seventh place in the 13-team field.
Freshman Kristyna Abrahamova led the way for the Blue Devils with a 74 on Monday and a two day scored of 153. She improved five strokes from her round on Sunday. On Monday she bogeyed the first four holes, but recovered to shoot -2 over her final 14 holes, including -1 on the back nine. She
Senior Ella Williams also had a strong day on Monday for the Blue Devils. Her two-day total of 153 included a 75 on Monday, a three stroke improvement from Sunday's first round. Williams fired a 37 on the front nine, including a birdie, and a 38 on the back nine.
Both Abrahamova and Williams tied for 10th place overall with their scores of 153. Each was just five shots back of the tournament winner and just two shots back of fifth place.
Junior Cecy Gutierrez shot a round two score of 83, to go along with her first round score of 79 on Sunday. She finished in a tie for 39th place overall. Junior Tara Whelan and sophomore Abbie Underwood each shot 84 on Monday. Whelan finished with a two day score of 168 (54th place), while Underwood finished with a score of 171 (59th place.)
