Women's Golf Eighth At Tignanelli Towson Invitational After Day One
Junior Ella Williams helps pace CCSU on Sunday
The Central Connecticut women's golf team sits in eighth place out of 13 teams after the first day of the Tignanelli Towson Invitational on Sunday. The tournament is being played at Eagles Nest Country Club in Phoenix, MD, and is a par-72.
RESULTS AND MONDAY LIVE SCORING
The Blue Devils shot a round one team score of 320, led by senior Ella Williams who posted a score of 78 (+6) to lead the team. Central is three shots back of seventh place Quinnipiac, and just five back of sixth place Longwood.
Towson leads the way with a score of 295, followed by Lehigh (300), Lamar (306), Bethune-Cookman (309) and Navy (310).
Williams fired a round of 78, one shot better than freshman teammate Kristyna Abrahamova and junior Cecy Gutierrez (79). Williams is tied for 23rd place while Abrahamova and Gutierrez sit in a tie for 27th place.
Williams shot 41 on the front nine and then shot 37 on the back to pace the Blue Devils. She had a pair of birdies on the back nine and was just +1 over her last 10 holes.
Gutierrez shot 42 on the front nine and also shot 37 on the back. She was +1 over her last 10 holes.
Abrahamova shot 38 on the front and 41 on the back. She had one birdie on the back nine.
Junior Tara Whelan shot 84 and sits in a tie for 54th place. Sophomore Abbie Underwood shot an 87 and is tied for 61st place overall.
The second and final round will take place on Monday.
