Booker Earns NEC Rookie of the Week
Cross country freshman Jazmin Booker was named Rookie of the Week by the Northeast Conference on Tuesday.
Central Connecticut cross country runner Jazmin Booker was named Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week for her performance in the 10th Annual Ted Owen Cross Country Invitational, the league announced Tuesday.
The freshman finished 19th overall and was the third Blue Devil to cross the finish line in a field of 102 competitors at the Ted Owen Invitational Saturday at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, CT.
Booker has been a consistent runner for the Blue Devils and continues to improve upon each of her performances. She finished the 5K race with a time of 19:05.29, over 54 seconds faster than her performance at the Quinnipiac Invitational last week (20:00.01). Her time this Saturday was also over a minute faster than in her first collegiate meet, the Nassaney 5K (20:06.4), on Sept. 8.
The Philadelphia, PA native competed in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track at West Philadelphia Catholic High School where she earned top-10 accolades at the PIAA Cross Country and Track and Field Championships.
Booker and the rest of the Blue Devils will return to action Sunday, Oct. 7 for the New England Championships at Stanley Park in Westfield, MA.
