Four Blue Devils Named NEWISA All-New England
Seniors Nikola Deiter, Jewel Robinson and Allison Kelley along with junior Tori Sousa were named to the All-New England Division I team.
Four members of the Central Connecticut women's soccer team have been tabbed with NEWISA 2013 All-New England honors. Three Blue Devil seniors, Nikola Deiter, Jewel Robinson and Allison Kelley were each named to the second team while junior Tori Sousa was named to the third team.
All four All-New England honorees were also named All-NEC for their efforts this season. Kelley, Robinson and Sousa were tabbed All-NEC First Team and Deiter was named to the second-team.
In addition to their impressive accolades, Robinson, Kelley and Deiter were each also selected to participate in the NEWISA Senior Bowl in December where Kelley earned the Player of the Match honor.
All four Blue Devils significantly contributed to CCSU's 5-3 conference record this season and helped the squad clinch an NEC tournament berth. Central ultimately finished fourth at the championships.
DEITER: In her final season as a Blue Devil, Deiter saw just over 1,652 minutes in goal. She started in all 19 games and posted 96 saves, a goals against average of 1.74 and one shutout.
ROBINSON: Robinson wrapped up her senior campaign registering two goals and two assists for six points. The defender started 17 games and ranked fourth on the team in points.
KELLEY: Kelley started all 19 games for CCSU, scoring one goal and adding an assist for a three-point season total. Kelley's goal was a game-winner that came in overtime against NEC foe Bryant on Nov. 1 to keep the Blue Devils in the hunt for an NEC Tournament appearance.
SOUSA: In her first season as a Blue Devil, Sousa was one of only three members of the team to start all 19 contests in 2013. She proved to be aggressive on offense, leading the squad with 60 shots, 26 on goal. Sousa also posted a .433 shot on goal percentage. She finished the season tied for third on the team in points with six after posting two goals, including one game-winner.
Deiter, Robinson, Kelley and Sousa are four out of five student-athletes to represent the Northeast Conference on the All-New England teams. They were joined by Bryant's Allison Debenedictis, who was named to the third team.
