Freshman Morgan Santoro of the Central Connecticut women's soccer team was named NEC Co-Rookie of the Week for her impressive performance this past weekend in NEC play, the conference announced Monday. The award marks Santoro's second NEC Co-Rookie of the Week honor this season.
Santoro scored the game-winning goal in CCSU's upset win over visiting Saint Francis U on Sunday. She posted the goal in the 57th minute of play, unassisted, after weaving her way through Red Flash defenders.
Santoro took the shot from long-range and launched it into the top corner giving CCSU a 2-0 advantage, ultimately leading to the Blue Devils' 2-1 win. The goal was the freshman's second of the season and she now has two goals and an assist on the season.
Among the rest of the Blue Devil squad, Santoro ranks second in points (5) and posts a shot on goal percentage of .480. She has started eight of 14 games this season as a freshman, including Sunday's contest against Saint Francis U.
The Blue Devils will return to the pitch on Friday, Oct. 25, as they take on the Knights of Fairleigh Dickinson on the road. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Fans can watch all the action live, for free, on www.NECFrontRow.com.
