Kelley Named Senior Bowl Player of the Match
Seniors Allison Kelley and Jewel Robinson played in the 2013 Senior Bowl this past weekend.
Senior Allison Kelley from the Central Connecticut women's soccer team competed in the 2013 Senior Bowl at Merrimack College this past weekend and earned Player of the Match honors for her impressive efforts in the 2-2 draw.
Both Kelley and teammate Jewel Robinson competed in the match on the WUSA squad. Following the match, in an informal poll of attending coaches, Kelley was named Player of the Match for team WUSA while SCSU's Suzane Pires earned the award for Team WPS.
Both teams posted two goals on the day. Team WUSA scored first, taking advantage of a corner kick opportunity just over 28 minutes into the game. Team WPS scored its first just under ten minutes later to tie it up.
Team WUSA regained the lead just before the half, heading into the locker room with a 2-1 advantage however, in the second half, Team WPS again equalized the score in the 76th minute of play.
Both Robinson and Kelley were selected to play in the Senior Bowl after they helped lead CCSU to an appearance in the 2013 Northeast Conference Championships and a 5-3 NEC record in their final season as Blue Devils.
