Gioielli, Alston Break MTF School Records on the Weekend
The CCSU men's outdoor track and field team will return to action next as they compete at the America East Pre-Conference Meet on Saturday, April 30 at the Reggie Atkins Track & Field Facility in Durham, NH.
Junior Joseph Gioielli broke the CCSU school record in the 800 meter run and freshman Edwin Alston broke the school record in the 110 meter hurdles as the CCSU men's outdoor track and field team was split in action between the Larry Ellis Invitational and the Georgia Tech Invitational this weekend.
Gioielli broke his own CCSU school record in the men's 800 meter elite run on Saturday at the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton University, improving his school record time to 1:50.23. The time earned Gioielli a 19th place overall finish in the event.
Meanwhile at the Georgia Tech Invitational, Alston sprinted to a fifth place overall finish in the 110 meter hurdles finals crossing the finish line with a new CCSU record time of 14.31. To advance to the 110 meter hurdles finals, Alston ran 14.33 in the preliminaries and 14.34 in the semi-finals. The times qualified the rookie to compete in the USA Jr. Nationals in Clovis, CA on June 24-26.
In the 200 meter run at the Larry Ellis Invitational, senior Kendall Walker ran a season-best 22.23 to record a 23rd place overall finish in the event and in the 400 meter run junior Zach Andrews logged a season-best time of 49.54 to place 25th.
Alex Norstrom ran a new personal-best time in the men's 10,000 meter run at the Larry Ellis Invitational on Saturday. The sophomore ran 13:17.22 to log the new PR and the time resulted in a fifth place overall finish in the event.
In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, Austin Trainor registered a new personal-best time. The sophomore crossed the finish line in 9:10.62 for the PR and picked up a 12th place overall finish.
Sophomore Sam Borecki turned in a 10th place finish at the Larry Ellis Invitational in the pole vault. Borecki cleared 4.70 meters to earn the result.
At the Georgia Tech Invitational, senior Dashawn Putman cleared 2.02 meters in the men's high jump to land a spot on top of the podium at the meet. The clearance earned Putman a third place overall finish.
