Latham Leads Heptathlon After Day One at IC4A Championships

The final three events of the heptathlon will take place Saturday beginning with the 60 meter hurdles at 9:45 a.m.
HEPTATHLON DAY 1 RESULTS
Latham racked up 2,917 total points over the first four events of the heptathlon to top the field after day one of competition. The sophomore finished fourth or better in all four events on Friday, including a victory in the high jump and recorded two personal-best marks.
Latham opened the heptathlon with a fourth place finish in the 60 meter dash clocking in a time of 7.29. The result earned him 782 points towards his score.
He followed with a runner-up finish in the long jump leaping to a personal-best distance of 6.77 meters. The distance and result awarded Latham 760 points.
Latham then recorded his second personal-best mark of the meet launching the shot put 13.04 meters. The distance gave the sophomore a second place finish in the event and 670 more points. The new personal-best distance also shattered his previous collegiate-best mark of 12.60 meters that he set earlier this season in the heptathlon at the Elm City Challenge.
The Mystic, CT product then wrapped up the first day of competition with his best finish, claiming gold in the high jump. Latham cleared 1.89 meters on his second attempt to collect the finish, 705 points and solidify himself on top of the leader board through the first four events.
Latham leads a field of 11 competitors in the heptathlon with 2,917 points and is 95 points ahead of the second place athlete, Christian Kinney (2,822). Christopher Gabor (2,807) is third followed by Alex Hedrick (2,682) and Zachary McDermott (2,662) to round out the top-five.
Latham's collegiate-best total in the heptathlon is 5,019 points and he will look to break that mark and claim his first heptathlon victory over the final three events beginning Saturday at 9:45 a.m. with the 60 meter hurdles.
