Junior Joseph Gioielli of the Central Connecticut men's indoor track and field team picked up his third straight and fourth overall Northeast Conference Track Athlete of the Week award of the 2015-16 season on Monday night after posting a first place finish and breaking a CCSU school record this past Saturday at Boston University's Scarlet and White Open. The meet was held at the BU Track and Tennis Center in Boston, MA.
Gioielli continued his dominance on the track so far this season picking up yet another first place finish en route to his fourth NEC Track Athlete of the Week award this past Saturday at the Scarlet and White Open held at the BU Track and Tennis Center in Boston, MA. The third-year Blue Devil raced to a first place finish in the men's 1,000 meter run breaking the tape with a time of 2:23.24. The time breaks the previous CCSU school record that Gioielli set back in 2013 (2:23.39) and qualifies him to compete in the event at the New England Championships and IC4A Championships later this season. He not only qualifies for those meets, but currently stands on top of the NEICAAA performance list with his record breaking time and is second on the IC4A performance list. The gold medal is the fourth for the mid-distance specialist so far this season. He has two in the 800 meter, one in the mile and now one in the 1,000 meter.
Gioielli and the rest of the CCSU men's indoor track and field team will be back in action next as they return to the BU Track and Tennis Center in Boston, MA for the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 13.
