Men's Track and Field Competes at Yale's Mark Young Invitational
The CCSU men's outdoor track and field team competed at the Mark Young Invitational hosted by Yale on Saturday in New Haven, CT.
The Central Connecticut men's outdoor track and field team competed at the Mark Young Invitational hosted by Yale on Saturday. The meet was held at the Dewitt Cuyler Athletic Complex in New Haven, CT. Freshman Richard Grudzwick and senior Malcolm Connor finished one-two in the 800 meter run and junior Jeremy Willis picked up gold in the javelin to highlight the action for the Blue Devils.
OFFICIAL RESULTS
Grudzwick and Connor picked up gold and silver in the 800 meter run, respectively, at the Mark Young Invitational. Grudzwick topped the field finishing with a time of 1:53.59, while Connor finished right behind him in second clocking in a time of 1:54.44. Grudzwick's winning time also qualified the freshman to compete at the IC4A Championships held at Princeton University on May 13-15.
Willis picked up his second straight victory in the javelin to open the 2016 outdoor season. The junior launched the javelin 58.65 meters on his third attempt to top the field of 13 athletes in the event. Senior James Frey joined Willis in the event and also found himself on the podium recording a third place finish in the event. He logged a distance of 53.13 meters to claim the bronze.
In the 400 meter run, sophomore Will Ribeiro turned in an 11th place finish for the Blue Devils on Saturday. Ribeiro raced to a time of 52.15 to record the result.
Junior Brendan Callahan registered a top-five finish in the 1,500 meter run. Callahan finished fourth overall with a finishing time of 4:02.61.
Eric Davidson finished on the podium turning in a third place finish in the 5,000 meter run. The sophomore clocked in a time of 16:15.81 to record the result.
Three Blue Devils logged top-10 finishes in the 400 meter hurdles on Saturday. Freshman Quincy Sanchez led the way with a third place finish after turning in a time of 56.23. Classmates Matt Baum and Franklin Bartley finished right behind Sanchez with sixth and eighth place finishes, respectively. Baum ran 58.64 while Bartley finished with a time of 1:00.42.
Senior Dashawn Putman followed up his CCSU school record breaking performance last weekend with a second place finish in the high jump at the Mark Young Invitational on Saturday. Putman cleared 1.97 meters to earn the result.
Junior Zach Torro launched the shot put 13.46 meters on his first attempt to record a 10th place finish out of 17 competitors in the event, while senior Therin Scott led the way for the Blue Devils in the discus and hammer throw. Scott fired the discus 33.00 meters for a 12th place finish and tossed the hammer 35.69 meters for a 14th place finish.
The CCSU men's track and field team will return to action next as some of the Blue Devils will travel to the Mt. SAC Relays in Norwalk, CA from April 14-16, while the rest head to the Minutemen Invitational on Saturday, April 16.
