Men's Soccer Announces Newcomers for 2019
CCSU opens the 2019 season at Seton Hall on Aug. 31.
Central Connecticut men's soccer and head coach Shaun Green have announced their newcomers to the program for the 2019 season. The incoming group includes 14 student-athletes and will add depth and experience across the field for the Blue Devils.
Here is a closer look at the newest Blue Devils (listed alphabetically):
Jason Dubrovich | Riverdale, NJ | Goalkeeper
Jason is a sophomore transfer from St. Peters University where he appeared in 16 games and started 15. Jason was named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team and was selected as the MAAC Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week on Oct. 22. In addition he was also earned Saint Peter's November Student-Athlete of the Month.
Before attending St. Peters, Jason played at Pompton Lakes High School in Pompton Lakes, NJ, where he posted 250 career saves. He was named All-League, All-County, and All-State three years and led his team to a League and Group 1 State Championship in 2017. Jason also was on the Honor Roll all four years of high school.
"Jason is a phenomenal goalkeeper who brings NCAA Division One experience with him. He is expected to challenge for a starting role from day one. His work ethic and commitment to be an outstanding student athlete epitomizes the type of young men we want to attract to our program. We are thrilled that he has committed to play for CCSU," said Green.
Jarrod Fournier | Leominster, MA | Defender/Midfielder
Fournier is a versatile player from Leominster, MA. He played for Leominster High School where he served as team captain. He was a four year starter and received the 2018 Men's Soccer Coaches Award. Jarrod played in ENPL Eastern US Finals for GPS Massachusetts.
"Jarrod is an explosive athlete. He has tremendous speed on both sides of the ball. He is a player who is going to work hard for the opportunity to play at the NCAA Division One level. We all welcome Jarrod to the Blue Devil family," said Green.
Dylan Kazmierowicz | Hainesport, NJ | Defender
Dylan is a talented defender from Hainesport, NJ. He can play either right or left outside back. Dylan graduated from Rancocas Regional High school where he was a four-year varsity starter. He finished his senior year with four goals and four assists. While at Rancocas, Dylan earned First Team All-County, First Team All-South Jersey and Second Team All-State, in addition to being selected the Most Valuable Player.
After high school Dylan played for Rowan College at Burlington County where his team reached the regional finals. Dylan played club soccer for CJFC and Marlton GPS.
"Dylan is an exceptional defender that can play either side of the field. He is expected to compete immediately for a starting role on defense. He will bring maturity and experience to our young team. We are all excited about Dylan's decision to play at the next level at CCSU," said Green.
Tyler Kazmierowicz | Hainesport, NJ | Midfielder
Tyler is an attacking minded midfielder from Hainesport, NJ who played his club soccer with CJFC and Marlton GPS. Tyler graduated from Rancocas Valley Regional High School where he was a four year starter. He finished his senior year with 16 goals and nine assists. In high school Tyler was selected First Team All-County, First Team All-South Jersey and Second Team All-State.
After high school Tyler attended Rowan College at Burlington County. He notched 18 goals and 9 assists while reaching the Regional Finals.
"Tyler is a creative player with pace and skill who can play in the midfield or forward positions. He will being versatility and experience to our program. We expect Tyler to make an immediate impact on our program in our quest to make the playoffs this season. We are excited Tyler has chosen CCSU to continue his collegiate career," said Green.
Mitchell Lyons | Windsor Locks, CT | Midfielder
Mitchell is a very skillful central midfielder from South Windsor, CT. He is was a four year starter and team captain at South Windsor High School. Mitchell was selected All-Conference in 2016, 2017 and 2018. He was also selected All-State and All-New England his junior and senior years. In addition, Mitchell plays club soccer for FSA in the ECNL league. He has played in the NPL Finals in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2018.
Because of his talent, Mitchell was identified to play on the Olympic Development Team from 2013 to present. Additionally, he was picked for the Regional Pool and serves as team captain.
"Mitchell is one of the best players in the state of Connecticut. He has refined skills and is a very intelligent player on the field. I love the manner in which he controls the game from midfield. He is going to push for immediate playing time this season. He has received outstanding coaching from his high school coach, Peter Lepak and club coach, Tom D'Agostino. We feel very fortunate to have such a great in-state talent playing for us next fall," said Green.
Amin Mohammed | East Windsor, CT | Midfielder/Defender
Mohammed is a quick attacking wide player from East Windsor, CT. He was a standout player for East Windsor High School where he was named All-NCCC in 2017. Amin played club soccer in the NPL and ECNL with CFC United. Amin attended CCSU this spring, but an injury prevented him from playing.
"Amin has phenomenal speed and can play wide as an attacking fullback or midfielder. We are confident he will recover fully from his injury and add great value to the starting lineup once he is 100% fit. Our staff are looking forward to seeing Amin on the field this fall," said Green.
Liam O'Brien | Guilford, CT | Defender
O'Brien is a tenacious defender from Guilford, CT. Liam was a standout player for Guilford High School. He played club soccer for CFC United and currently for CFC Valley. In 2016 and 2017 he won the Connecticut Championship. In 2016 and 2017 his CFC team finished in the "final four" of the national club championships.
"Liam is a consistent and tough defender who will compete for a starting defensive role as a freshman. He is a fantastic leader on and off the field. His training habits are excellent. I am confident Liam will make a positive impact on our program over the next four years. I am looking forward to coaching him in the next chapter of his soccer career," said Green.
Ryan Radwon | Poughkeepsie, NY | Forward
Radwon is a creative striker from Poughkeepsie, NY, who transferred into CCSU this spring. Ryan was rated a four-star recruit by TopDrawerSoccer.com. In 2014, he was named Poughkeepsie Journal All-Star Honorable Mention and an All-Section player.
Ryan played in the US Soccer Development Academy program with Everton FC Westchester. He was a US Region 1 Olympic Development Program player and also represented the Eastern New York Olympic Development team. He was also selected to the Super Y National ODP Select Camp and US Club Soccer ID2 Camp.
"Ryan attended CCSU this spring but unfortunately could not play due to an injury. He is working tirelessly on his recovery and we are confident he will be ready for the fall season. Ryan has suffered some setbacks but once he is fit he will bring depth and creativity to our offense. We are looking forward to seeing Ryan back on the field this fall," said Green.
Jamie Simpson | Downington, PA | Forward
Jamie is a proven goal scorer from Penncrest High School, who plays in the US Soccer Development Program for Continental FC Delco. He was the top goal scorer for Continental Delco this season with eight goals and six assists. In 2017 Jamie was recruited by the Philadelphia Union to travel Mexico to play in the BBVA Liga Bancomer tournament.
"Jamie is an outstanding striker who can score goals. He has proven himself at the US Academy level and I am confident he will prove himself at the NCAA Division One level also. Our staff observed Jamie in several competitions and every time he produced. I personally love his relentless attitude to win. I believe he is going to make an immediate impact on our team and in our conference this fall. We are all thrilled Jamie selected CCSU to continue his soccer and academic career," said Green.
John Michael Torres | Lilburn, GA | Midfielder
Torres is a talented midfielder from Lilburn, GA. He is the captain of Concorde Fire in the US Soccer Development Academyand has the technical ability, skill and talent to be a very special player in the Northeast Conference. John Michael participated in the Development Academy for five years while excelling with GA United and winning the southeast region league. He participated in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Playoffs U16/17 DA year in San Diego. In high school he scored 36 Goals in one season, leading the team to the state finals.
"Our coaching staff watched him compete in the Academy Winter Showcase and we were instantly impressed by his creativity and vision with the ball. We rate John Michael as one of the best recruits in our conference. I can't wait to see him on the field in August," said Green.
Edward Venta-Yepes | Lowell, MA | Forward/Midfielder
Venta-Yepes is an extremely talented attacking player from Lowell, MA. He transferred into CCSU last fall from UMass-Lowell and had to sit out for one season. At UMass-Lowell he made 14 starts in 24 appearances and was named to the America East All-Rookie Team in 2015.
In high school, Edward spent two years playing for the New England Revolution Academy and also played for the Colorado Rapids Academy. As a freshman at Thomas Jefferson High School he scored 16 goals and was named First-Team All-Colorado and earned honor roll all four years. Edward is a National Honor Society member.
"Edward is an outstanding player. He is creative, intelligent and can score goals. Our coaching staff selected him as a co-captain because of his leadership qualities and the positive impact he has on the team on and off the field. Edward epitomizes everything great about our program. I am so excited to see Edward lead the team this fall," said Green.
Marcris Webb | New Britain, CT | Forward
Webb is an attacking player from New Britain High School, CT. In high school he won the CCC Conference Championship and was an All-State and All-Conference selection in track. Webb plays club soccer in CSL.
"Marcris is a great athlete who tried out for the program this spring. He has incredible speed and raw talent. I am looking forward to see how he continues to develop this fall" said Green.
Roandre Wollery | Hartford, CT | Goalkeeper
Wollery is a transfer from the University of Hartford. Before Hartford he played two years at Herkimer Community College were he was named an NJCAA/USC All-American and earned NJCAA Region 3 First Team honors in 2017. In addition, Roandre earned USC Junior College First Team Scholar All-American honors and was also an All-Mountain Valley Conference First Team selection and a two-time NJCAA DIII Goalkeeper of the Week. He led Herkimer to a pair of NJCAA National Championship Final Four appearances, including a third-place finish in 2017.
Before attending Herkimer, Roandre was a three year standout at Bulkeley High School and he was named a three-time CCC All-Conference selection (2013, 2014, 2015), selected to the CHSCA All-State team and Connecticut Senior Bowl in 2015.
"Roandre is an outstanding athlete. He has the tools to develop into a very talented goalkeeper. We all welcome him into the Blue Devil family and are looking forward to him joing our team in the fall," said Green.
Patryk Wnorowski | Plainville, CT | Defender
Patryk attended Plainville High School in Plainville, CT. In 2017 Patryk was selected to the All-Conference team. The 6-2, 165-pound defender will add depth to the Blue Devil defense this fall.
"Patryk is a consistent player who will add depth to the back four this season. He has a great attitude and we welcome him to the Blue Devil program," said Green.
CCSU opens the 2019 season at Seton Hall on August 31.
