Men's Soccer Unable to Overcome Sacred Heart Fast Start
Central closes the regular season against Bryant on Saturday, Nov. 3.
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team fell to Sacred Heart, 5-1, on Friday night in Northeast Conference action at CCSU Soccer Field. The Pioneers scored three early goals and held off the Blue Devils from there.
CCSU fell to 1-12-1 overall and 1-6 in the Northeast Conference with the defeat.
Central closes the regular season against Bryant on Saturday, Nov. 3. The 1:00 p.m. kickoff will be Senior Day for the CCSU seniors.
Sacred Heart scored twice in the opening five minutes, with Segundo Navarro pouncing on turnovers to convert both goals and make it 2-0 just 4:17 into the game.
The Pioneers pushed the lead to 3-0 at the 6:16 mark after Giuseppi Martinelli chipped a pass ahead to Alejandro Arribas who beat the defense to the ball and slipped a shot past the goalkeeper.
SHU tacked on a goal just before halftime when Altin Celaj converted a penalty kick to make it 4-0.
Central got a goal back early in the second half after SHU was whistled for a handball. Senior Louis Beddouri converted the penalty at the 47:35 mark to make it 4-1.
The Pioneers closed the scoring with a goal at 63:10. Zander Hyltoft sent a low cross to Oscar Curras who directed home the shot.
CCSU will host Bryant for Senior Day on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 1:00 p.m.
