Men's Soccer Falls Short at Saint Francis U.
The Blue Devils play at Robert Morris on Sunday afternoon.
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team fell at Saint Francis U, 4-2, on Friday in Loretto, PA. The teams combined for five goals in the first half, with the Red Flash scoring the opening three goals to build a lead it would hold throughout. The loss drops Central to 0-11-1 overall and 0-5 in the Northeast Conference.
The Blue Devils play at Robert Morris on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
The Red Flash scored twice in the opening 20 minutes. Mario Mastrangelo scored at 7:06 to open the scoring. He scored his second of the day at 18:37 off of passes from Kevin Smolyn and Eric Ganime. He finished off a breakaway at the nearpost to make it 2-0.
SFU pushed the lead to 3-0 at the 22:27 mark when Gabriel Castro headed home a cross with assists to Filip Burnett and Leonardo Ribeiro.
The Blue Devils started their comeback just befor the half-hour makr when senior Sebastian Calderon collected a turnover and finished on a breakaway to make it 3-1.
Senior Louis Beddouri scored at 31:43 to cut the deficit to one goal. He made a steal and converted a shot at a close angle to make it 3-2.
The score would remain that way until late in the second half when Ribeiro finished off a cross at the 84:25 mark to close the scoring and make it 4-2.
Senior Carson D'Ambrosio made three saves in goal for CCSU. The Red Flash held a 19-10 advantage in shots.
