Reece Wilson Academic All-American
Reece Wilson becomes the first student-athlete in CCSU history to earn COSIDA Capitol One First-Team Academic All-American honors.
Central Connecticut men's soccer senior Reece Wilson was named to the COSIDA Capitol One Academic All-American First-Team on Thursday. Wilson is one of 11 student-athletes nation-wide to earn a spot on the first-team. Just 33 total men's soccer student-athletes in the country were placed on the first, second, and third teams.
Wilson becomes the first student-athlete in CCSU history to earn a spot on the first team. The only other men's soccer players from CCSU to make the list were Alex Harrison who made the third team in 2006 and Yan Klukowski who also made the third team in 2008.
The Northest Conference Player of the Year was the only representative of the NEC for both men's and women's soccer. Wilson is an accounting major who posted a GPA of 3.84 to land him on the honorary list. He started all 18 games for the Blue Devils in 2012 leading the team in goals (9), assists (6), and points (24) as well as finishing second in the conference in points and goals.
As well as being named top player in the NEC, Wilson boasted First-Team All-NEC and COSIDA Academic All-District in 2012. He was a 2012 Herman Trophy candidate, the highest accolade in collegiate men's soccer. The senior captain is also a finalist for the Soccer News Net College Boot Award which recognizes the top men's soccer player in the country as voted by fans, coaches, and players.
Wilson helped lead his team to an 8-8-2 overall record with a 6-3-1 conference mark. In his two years at Central, he racked up 39 total points off of 15 goals and nine assists.
