Trio to Play in NEISL All-Star Game
Reece Wilson, Thomas Obasi, and Jesse Menzies made the NEISL roster.
Three members of the Central Connecticut men's soccer team were named to the New England Intercollegiate Soccer All-Star roster on Wednesday. Seniors Reece Wilson, Jesse Menzies, and Thomas Obasi each earned a spot to play in the regional All-Star game.
NEISL announced that the game will be played on Sunday, November 25th at 1 p.m. Harvard University will be the host site of the event located in Cambridge, MA. New England Division I soccer coaches casted their votes and 22 student-athletes from the New England region were selected.
Teams featuing players in the All-Star game will be Northeastern, UMASS, Brown, Sacred Heart, UCONN, Vermont, Quinnipiac, Providence, and Central Connecticut. Central along with Quinnipiac and Sacred Heart showcase seven combined players from the Northeast Conference on the roster.
Wilson is a two-time 2012 NEC Player of the Week as well as a 2012 Hermann Trophy Candidate. The senior was second in the conference in points with 24 during the regular season netting nine goals and assisting six more goals. He also landed a spot on the COSIDA Academic All-District team for his performance in the classroom, boasting a 3.84 GPA, as well as on the pitch.
Menzies contributed another five goals on the year along with six assists, tied with Wilson for most on the team. The senior was two-for-three shooting penalty kicks in 2012 as well as recording a shot-on-goal percentage of .515.
Obasi made history this season tying the CCSU record for assists in a game registering three against St. Francis (PA) on October 5th of this season. He finished with five assists in 2012 and punched in a goal against LIU-Brooklyn on October 26th.
All three of the NEISL All-Star honorees played and started in all 18 games for the Blue Devils this season. The seniors helped lead Central to an 8-8-2 overall record with a 6-3-1 mark in the NEC.
All-Conference selections and awards will be announced on Thursday night, November 8th.
