Nehls Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District 1 First Team
Nehls earns the honor for the second straight season.
Junior Austin Nehls of the Central Connecticut men's basketball team was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 1 First Team it was announced Thursday. It is the second consecutive year Nehls has earned a spot on the team. Nehls and the Blue Devils are back in action Thursday night against Wagner at Detrick Gymnasium.
Nehls, a Finance major, has posted a cumulative 3.94 GPA and during the Fall 2017 semester he had a 4.0 GPA and was named to the Dean's List. On the court, Nehls became the 37th player in CCSU program-history to score 1,000 career points when he hit a three-pointer in the second half at Saint Francis U on Feb. 15. He currently ranks sixth all-time at Central with 198 career three-pointers.
Nehls has hit a team-high 59 three-pointers on the year and ranks ninth in the Northeast Conference with 2.0 three-pointers per game. He has started all 29 games and is averaging 9.7 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. Nehls also averages 34.6 minutes per game, which is tied for the team-high.
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
