Men's Basketball Slowed in Second Half at Boston College
Central hosts Maine on Wednesday at Detrick Gymnasium.
The Central Connecticut men's basketball team fell at Boston College, 84-65, on Sunday afternoon in Conte Forum. The Blue Devils hung close for the first half, before the Eagles shot over 50 percent in the second half to pull away. Junior Tyler Kohl scored 17 points and senior Mustafa Jones added 15 points for Central.
With the loss, CCSU slips to 5-6 overall on the year, while Boston College improves to 9-3.
Kohl added a team-high seven rebounds and four assists. Jones shot 7-of-10 from the floor and hit his only three-point attempt on the day. Junior Austin Nehls finished with nine points.
The Blue Devils finished the game 23-of-57 (.404) from the floor and was 9-of-25 (.360) from three-point range. CCSU was 10-of-14 (.714) from the foul line.
BC would lead for much of the first half, but was unable to shake CCSU. A three-pointer by Jerome Robinson at the 8:04 mark put the Eagles in front, 26-20, but the Blue Devils came right back to tie the game.
A foul shot by junior Austin Nehls would spark a short burst of six straight points for Central. Junior Tyler Kohl would follow with five straight of his own, including a three-pointer at the 6:10 mark, to tie the game at 26-all.
Boston College came back with five straight of its own to maintain the lead and a three-pointer by Robinson just before the intermission made it 43-36 at halftime.
Central shot 12-of-22 (.545) from the field and 5-of-8 (.625) on three-pointers in the opening period. The Blue Devils had 10 assists on 12 baskets in the period.
The Eagles would begin to pull away by holding Central to one field goal over a six-minute span in the second half. Following a layup by senior Mustafa Jones with 18:15 to play that made it 45-38, BC would score nine straight to open a stretch that it outscored Central, 22-3.
Freshman Talek Williams would convert a layup with 11:09 to play for CCSU to make it 67-43 after BC opened its largest lead of the day. The Blue Devils would be unable to get closer than the final margin the rest of the way.
Jordan Chatman led five Eagles in double-figures with 15 points, while Steffon Mitchell had 13 points and 14 rebounds. BC shot 32-of-63 (.508) from the field for the day and was 9-of-22 (.409 ) from three-point range.
Central returns home to host Maine on Wednesday, Dec. 20, at 7:00 p.m.
