The Central Connecticut football team will travel to Sacred Heart on Saturday afternoon for a Northeast Conference game. The Blue Devils (2-4, 1-0 NEC) and Pioneers (5-1, 0-1 NEC) are both playing their second NEC game of the season. The intrastate rivals will kickoff at 1 p.m. from Campus Field in Fairfield, CT.

Today's Game
The Blue Devils travel to Fairfield, CT, to play the Pioneers of Sacred Heart. CCSU is coming off a 38-29 victory over Saint Francis U on Homecoming, while the Pioneers enter the game at 0-1 in NEC play after a loss to Wagner last weekend. Sacred Heart started the year 5-0 and has the NEC's best overall record this season at 5-1. The Blue Devils are 2-4 on the season, but at 1-0 in NEC play CCSU shares the top of the standings with Bryant.
Up Next for CCSU
The Blue Devils will be off next week (Oct. 19) before hosting Salve Regina on Saturday, Oct. 26. After that CCSU will visit Wagner (Nov. 2), host Robert Morris (Nov. 9), play at Duquesne (Nov. 16) and host Bryant (Nov. 23) for the regular season finale at Arute Field.
Series History
This is the 16th meeting between the Blue Devils and Pioneers with CCSU holding a 9-6 advantage in the series. This series has been marked by winning streaks on both sides. CCSU won the first two meetings ('98, '99) and Sacred Heart the next four ('00, '01, '02, '03). Then the Blue Devils won seven straight ('04, '05, '06, '07, '08, '09, '10), but the Pioneers have won the two most recent meetings ('11, '12).
100+ Rushing Yards
The Blue Devils have rushed for 100+ yards in 29 consecutive games. The last time CCSU failed to reach 100 rushing yards was Nov. 6, 2010 against Robert Morris.
Last Season's Meeting
Last season CCSU and SHU met at Campus Field with the Pioneers earning a 34-21 victory. Quarterback Nick SanGiacomo threw for three touchdowns in that game to set a career-high, a mark he has matched twice this season with the latest coming last week against Saint Francis.
NEC Offensive Player of the Week
Junior Tyrell Holmes has made a successful transition from defensive back to wide receiver this season. A position switch that was highlighted by a huge performance in Saturday's Homecoming victory over Saint Francis U. Holmes accounted for the second-highest single-game total by a NEC receiver this season with five catches for 153 yards and one touchdown on Saturday. Averaging 30.6 yards per reception, Holmes saw all five of his catches go for either a first down or a touchdown.
Big Win on Homecoming
Last week the Blue Devils earned a 38-29 victory over Saint Francis U on Homecoming. Sophomore quarterback Nick SanGiacomo threw for a career-high 242 yards and a career-high matching three touchdowns to lead the CCSU offense. NEC Offensive Player of the Week Tyrell Holmes caught for five passes, including a touchdown. Holmes averaged 30.6 yards per catch on the day. Junior running back Rob Hollomon went for 123 yards and two touchdowns. Senior corner back Chris Linares made four tackles, including three solo stops, had an interception and broke up a pass in the game.

Junior Tyrell Holmes leads CCSU in receptions (17), receiving yards (267), receiving touchdowns (3) and receiving yards per game (44.5). Holmes entered last week's game with 114 receiving yards this season, he doubled his season total with his 153-yard performance on Satruday.
SanGiacomo's Throwing
Sophomore quarterback Nick SanGiacomo has started the season with 637 passing yards threw the team's first six contests, although he has only seen action in four games (three starts). In his three starts, SanGiacomo has led the CCSU offense to 103 points or 34.3 points/game. Individually, SanGiacomo has totaled 632 passing yards and seven touchdowns in his three starts.
