Home Opener: Football vs. Holy Cross 6 p.m.
The Central Connecticut football team will host Holy Cross on Saturday night at 6 p.m. at Arute Field. It will be the first ever meeting on the football field between the Blue Devils (0-2) and Crusaders (0-2).
Here are some notes on the Blue Devils heading into Saturday:
-The Blue Devils have never played Holy Cross in football, but CCSU is 1-2 against the Patriot League under head coach Jeff McInerney. All three of those games were against Lehigh.
-Junior Rob Hollomon was named NEC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday and Gridiron Club of Greater Boston FCS Gold Helmet Award winner on Wednesday for his peformance last week at Lehigh. Hollomon had 253 all-purpose yards, 160 rushing yards, 70 receiving yards and three rushing touchdowns.
-Sophomore Nick SanGiacomo completed 20 passes at Lehigh becoming the first Blue Devil quarterback to rach 20 completions sinces Scott Dolch in 2004.
-The Blue Devils also hosted a Patriot League opponent in last season's home opener, Lehigh.
