Men's Soccer Falls at Stony Brook on Late Goal
The Blue Devils had their two-game win streak snapped.
A goal with just over seven minutes to play was the difference as the Central Connecticut men's soccer team fell, 2-1, at Stony Brook on Wednesday. Sophomore Andres Muriel Albino notched his first goal of the year for CCSU, which had its modest two-game win streak snapped and fell to 2-2 on the season.
CCSU travels to Canisius on Sunday, September 10, for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
The Blue Devils opened the scoring in the 19th minute when senior Ryan Taylor passed to Albino at the top of the box. Albino settled and put his shot over the keeper's head for a 1-0 lead.
The Seawolves leveled the score almost 10 minutes later. Danny Espinoza sent a throw-in to Akeem Morris who headed to Vince Erdei and he put a header into the goal to make it 1-1.
SBU managed to break the deadlock with just over seven minutes remaining when Rob Bjornholm-Jatta picked up a fortuitous deflection that left him one-on-one with the goalkeeper behind the CCSU defense and he sent his shot off the far post to make it 2-1.
CCSU would push to find the game-tying goal and earned four late corner kicks, but Stony Brook managed to absorb the pressure and hang on for the win.
Junior Carson D'Ambrosio had two saves in goal for the Blue Devils. Stony Brook, which improved to 3-1 on the year, held a slim 11-8 edge in shots.
Central is back in action on Sunday, September 10, with a 1:00 p.m. contest at Canisius.
