Northeast Conference Announces Preseason Men's Soccer Poll
The Blue Devils open the season at home on Aug. 25 against UMass Lowell.
The Northeast Conference Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll was announced by the league office on Tuesday. Central Connecticut was tabbed seventh in the poll and will open its season at home against UMass Lowell on Friday, August 25.
The Blue Devils are set to begin their 33rd season under head coach Shaun Green. Central is slated to return a pair of All-NEC performers. Graduate student Nick Velleca returns as goalkeeper earning All-NEC Second Team honors after starting 14 games and making a league-high 7.2 saves in league play. Sophomore Andres Muriel Albino was named to the All-NEC Second Team and All-NEC Rookie Team. He started all 17 games and ranked second on the team in goals and third in points.
Defending champion St. Francis Brooklyn was tabbed as the preseason favorite, collecting seven first-place votes. Runner-up Saint Francis U. collected the remaining first-place vote and was picked second.
Central will open the 2017 season at home on Friday, August 25, against UMass Lowell. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. at CCSU Soccer Field.
