Men's Soccer Drops 2-0 Home Decision to Columbia on Friday Night
Blue Devils are back in action at home vs. Hartford on Sept. 26
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 home decision to visiting Columbia on Friday night. The loss drops the Blue Devils to 3-4-1 overall. The Lions remain unbeaten with a 4-0-2 mark after the victory.
Central will return to action on Tuesday night, hosting local rival Hartford at 7 p.m. on the CCSU Soccer Field.The game is the final non-conference home game of the season for the Blue Devils.
After a clean first 20 minutes from both team, the Lions took advantage of the first real scoring opportunity of the game. Arthur Bosua took a feed from Haris Stamboulidis towards the right side of the box, stepped in front of his defender and beat the CCSU keeper to the lower right corner for the 1-0 lead. The goal was the third of the season for Bosua.
The lead reached 2-0 with just over 10 minutes to play in the first half. Off a free kick at the top left of the box, Beto Carillo hit Bosua who headed it to the top right of the goal to push the lead to two.
The Blue Devils had a couple of scoring chances in the second half but Columbia keeper Dylan Castanheira secured the shutout with seven saves in goal in the match.
A pair of Blue Devil goalkeeper, seniors Nick Velleca and Carson D'Ambrosio combined to make eight saves in net for the Blue Devils. D'Ambrosio had six in just over a half of play.
