Men's Soccer Earns 1-1 Draw at FDU on Sunday
The Blue Devils return home to host St. Francis Brooklyn on Friday, Oct. 27.
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team picked up a draw at Fairleigh Dickinson in Northeast Conference action on Sunday night in Teaneck, NJ. The tie moves CCSU to 5-7-3 overall and 2-2-1 in league play, while FDU is now 8-5-1 overall and 2-2-1 in league play.
Central will host St. Francis Brooklyn on Friday, Oct. 27, at 4:00 p.m. for Senior Day.
The Blue Devils played their sixth overtime contest of the season and fifth that went to double-overtime. It is their most overtime contests since playing six in the 2009 season.
Central would strike first just before halftime. Senior Ryan Taylor would dribble down the wing to the endline and center a pass for freshman Sean Gannon who settled the ball, turned and ripped his shot into the net for a 1-0 lead at the 42:08 mark.
The Knights would respond quickly with an equalizer to open the second half. Ahu Obhakhan would get free behind the Central defense and put his shot into the left side to tie the game, 1-1, at the 46:14 mark.
Junior Carson D'Ambrosio would finish with five saves for the Blue Devils, including a sliding kick stop just before the end of the second overtime to preserve the draw.
The Blue Devils finished with an 18-13 edge in shots and both team each had five corner kicks.
Central returns home on Friday, Oct. 27, and will host St. Francis Brooklyn at 4:00 p.m. on CCSU Soccer Field.
