Men's Soccer Falls to #18 UMass Lowell in Overtime
The Blue Devils are back in action against Niagara on September 1.
Central Connecticut fell to 18th-ranked UMass Lowell, 2-1, in overtime on Friday night at CCSU Soccer Field. Junior Louis Beddouri gave the Blue Devils an early-lead with a first half goal, but the River Hawks rallied with a late goal before scoring the winner in overtime.
The Blue Devils took the early lead in the 24th minute when senior Nick Velleca played a long ball that bounced to Beddouri. He managed to hold of the UML defender and slip his shot past the goalkeeper just inside the post to make it 1-0.
Central would manage to hold the edge until just under seven minutes to play. The River Hawks would gain the ball at midfield and Ivan Abramovic sent a ball ahead to Richard Mulo who would chip a shot to the far post over Velleca to tie the game 1-1 and send it to overtime.
In the extra session, UML earned a corner kick and Jakov Basic found Ivan Blaskic in the front of goal, who would place his shot low for the winning tally at the 95:17 mark.
Velleca turned in four saves for the Blue Devils, while Austin Kroll had two for the River Hawks.
The Blue Devils travel to the Peter Baldwin Memorial Classic next weekend in Burlington, VT. CCSU will face Niagara on Friday, Sept. 1.
