Men's Soccer Opens NEC Play This Weekend
The Blue Devils host Robert Morris and Saint Francis U to being NEC play.
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team opens Northeast Conference play this weekend with matches against Robert Morris and Saint Francis U. The Blue Devils face the Colonials on Friday afternoon before hosting the Red Flash on Sunday at CCSU Soccer Field.
The Blue Devils have gone 3-5-2 in non-conference play with eight players notching a goal so far. Sophomore Andres Muriel Albino has a team-high nine points (3 G, 3 A), while senior Ryan Taylor has added eight points (2 G, 4 A). Carson D'Ambrosio has played a team-high 621 minutes in goal and has a 1.74 goals against average with 26 saves.
The Colonials are off to a 1-7-2 start in non-league play. Bayley Winkel has seven goals and an assist to lead the RMU offense and rank second in the NEC in scoring. The Red Flash have started the season 7-4-0 overall with three shutouts. Mario Mastrangelo leads the league in scoring with 10 goals and 20 points for SFU.
The top four teams in the league standings after the regular season will advance to the NEC Tournament. The top seed will host the tournament on Nov. 10 and 12. Central was tabbed seventh in the league's preseason coaches' poll, while RMU was eighth and the Red Flash got one first-place vote and were picked second.
