Pirola Earns Northeast Conference Weekly Award
The Blue Devils travel to Stony Brook on Wednesday.
Freshman Filippo Pirola of the Central Connecticut men's soccer team was named Northeast Conference co-Rookie of the Week it was announced Monday. Pirola and the Blue Devils won the Peter Baldwin Memorial Classic with a pair of victories last weekend.
Central returns to action on Wednesday at Stony Brook in a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
Pirola was named to the All-Tournament team at the Peter Baldwin Memorial Classic after helping the Blue Devils post two wins with a 5-1 goal margin. He anchored a CCSU backline that surrendered just one goal in two wins and held FGCU scoreless for the first time since October 13, 2015. FGCU, which led the nation in scoring in 2016, received votes in the latest College Soccer News national poll, but was unable to break through in the Blue Devils' 2-0 victory. Pirola also helped Central to a 3-1 win over Niagara on Friday.
CCSU is back in action on Wednesday at Stony Brook. The teams kickoff at 7:00 p.m. on Long Island.
