Men's Soccer Announces Additions For 2018
The Blue Devils are set to welcome eight newcomers for the upcoming season.
Head coach Shaun Green and the Central Connecticut men's soccer team have announced the addition of eight student-athletes for the 2018 season. The incoming group will bolster the CCSU roster and all hail from Connecticut and Massachusetts.
Here is a closer look at the Blue Devils signees (listed alphabetically):
Alec Erskine | Coventry, CT | Midfielder
Erskine attends Coventry High School and is an attacking player with exceptional speed. He was a four-year starter for Coventry, which won the class "S" championship his junior year, and also plays for FSA United FC. In 2017, Erskine was named First Team All-State, First Team All-Conference, and selected as captain for the Connecticut Soccer Senior Bowl. He capped his senior season with 29 goals and 24 assists en route to earning All-State honors.
Head Coach Shaun Green on Erskine - "Alec is one of the best players coming out of Connecticut this year. He possesses incredible speed combined with excellent skills. He is an offensive threat in every game he plays. We are thrilled to have Alec as a Blue Devil. We expect Alec to make an immediate impact in Division I."
Jonathan Maldonado | Wolcott, CT | Forward
Maldonado attends Wolcott High School and scored 16 goals last season for the Eagles. Maldonado was named First Team All-Conference his junior and senior years. He was also named Team MVP twice, and selected to the Connecticut All-Star game on two occasions. He was named Offensive Player of the Year as a junior and senior. He was also a member of the National Honor Society, the Spanish National Honor Society and the Science National Honor Society. Maldonado has been an Honor Roll student for the past 3 years.
Head Coach Shaun Green on Richards - "Jonathan has outstanding speed and athletic ability. I've never seen a harder working player on the field. I know Jonathan will make the most out of his opportunity to be a Blue Devil. We are thrilled he has selected CCSU."
Aidan O'Brien | West Hartford, CT | Midfielder
O'Brien attends Conard High School in West Hartford, CT. He was named team captain his senior year, as well as being selected First Team All-Conference and named team MVP. O'Brien led the team in goals and assists as a senior. O'Brien plays club soccer for CFC United ECNL.
Head Coach Shaun Green on O'Brien - "Aidan is a talented midfielder with a relentless work rate and passion to win. He can control the midfield and he has a great understanding of the game. We expect Aidan to make an immediate impact in our lineup."
Larson Richards | Mansfield, CT | Midfielder
Richards attends E.O Smith High School in Storrs, CT. A four-year starter, he scored 17 goals as a senior and was named All-Conference his junior and senior years. He was team captain and MVP as a senior. Richards has played club soccer with Oakwood Soccer Club and Academy, Northeast United, and currently plays for FSA FC United.
Head Coach Shaun Green on Richards - "Larson will be a great addition to our program. He is athletic, creative and will contribute goals. He has the attitude and commitment consistent with our team culture at CCSU. We are extremely pleased that Larson has selected to play for the us and we look forward to seeing him develop into a successful student-athlete."
Sebbie Sanzaro | Glastonbury, CT | Midfielder
Sanzaro attends Glastonbury High School and has played as a midfielder and as a striker. Sanzaro was integral in helping Glastonbury win the 2014, 2015 and 2017 Class LL State Championships. Sanzaro was named the MVP of the State Championship in 2015 and 2017 and he was named four times to the Central Connecticut All-Conference Team. He was selected to the All-State First Team in 2016 and 2017 and also selected to the All-New England and All-Region team in 2017.
Head Coach Shaun Green on Sanzaro - "Sebbie is a tremendous addition to our squad. He can create and score goals. He comes from a great soccer environment and it shows in the way he plays. We believe that Sebbie will make the transition to NCAA soccer immediately and we are thrilled to have him as a Blue Devil."
Noah Silverman | Berlin, CT | Midfielder
Silverman attends Berlin High School where he was a three-time All-Central Connecticut Conference First Team Selection and three-time CSCA All-State selection. A team captain as a senior, he was also selected twice to the CSCA/NSCSA All-New England team. Silverman was a three-time All-Courant First Team and All-Herald First Team choice. He won three Central Connecticut Conference South Championships at Berlin. He was a two-time All-Academic selection and a three-time Team Offensive Player Award. He holds the career record with 43 assists and added 40 goals in three seasons. He was selected to the Connecticut Senior Bowl and earned MVP honors. Silverman plays club soccer for CFC United ECNL U-18/19.
Head Coach Shaun Green on Silverman - "Noah is a phenomenal player. Our coaching staff watched him develop over the years and we rate him as one of the best players in the region. He is an intelligent and creative midfielder who can challenge for a starting role from day one. Noah epitomizes the type of student athlete we want to attract to our program, we are thrilled that he has committed to play for CCSU."
Jeffrey Turro | Middletown, CT | Midfielder
Turro attends Middletown High School and can play in a central or wide midfield position. Turro was a starter and a team captain his junior and senior years. Turro was awarded the "Most Consistent Player" as a sophomore and he was a three-time Central Connecticut Conference All-Conference selection. Turro played club soccer for the Oakwood Academy, FSA, CT Sporting and CFC Valley premier teams.
Head Coach Shaun Green on Turro - "We are very happy to have Jeffrey select CCSU to play NCAA Division I soccer. He is a versatile and skillful young player who will develop significantly under our guidance."
John Wilkins | Natick, MA | Midfielder
Wilkins is a transfer from Providence College. He attended Natick High School and played for the New England Revolution Academy, captaining the team for three years. In the 2014-15 season, he started in 24 games and registered a team-best six assists. Wilkins has also participated in the Development Academy Showcase. His parents, Lisa and Christopher, both played soccer collegiately at Plymouth Sate.

As a former captain of the New England Revolution he also bring a high maturity level with leadership qualities. We are very fortunate to have John join our program."
