Sophomore Kier Minor was named Northeast Conference Special Teams Player of the Week after blocking a punt in the Blue Devils game against Sacred Heart on Saturday, Nov. 8.
The linebacker was the key reason why the Blue Devils held a 7-0 lead over the defending NEC champion Pioneers at the conclusion of the first quarter. With Sacred Heart punting from its own end, Minor broke free and stuffed the kick. The block sent the ball rolling into the end zone where senior Josh Alaeze fell on top of it for the game's first score.
Minor, who made two stops on defense, also logged a special teams tackle on kickoff coverage.
After senior Tyrell Holmes caught a 5-yard touchdown pass to knot the game at 21-21, Minor dropped SHU returner Stephan Thomas at the SHU 26-yard line on the ensuing kickoff.
The Blue Devils will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 15 against Howard in the 2014 NAACP Harmony Classic.
