Blue Devils Fall, Hollomon Sets Career Rushing Mark
Senior Rob Hollomon ran for two touchdowns in the first half and in the process surpassed former Blue Devil Stan House for Central Connecticut's career rushing record.
Robert Morris scored 21 unanswered points and held the Blue Devils scoreless over the final 29 minutes to come from behind and win 27-24 at Joe Walton Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Rob Hollomon ran for two touchdowns in the first half and in the process surpassed former Blue Devil Stan House for Central Connecticut's career rushing record. House, who played from 1994-97, held the CCSU rushing record for nearly 20 years. His total of 3,347 was passed by Hollomon on a three-yard rush late in the second quarter. Hollomon finished the day with 3,430 career rushing yards and 874 yards on the season.
The Colonials improve to 1-6 overall and 1-1 in Northeast Conference action. The Blue Devils (2-5, 0-2 NEC) will return to action at Arute Field next Saturday afternoon.
A 20-yard touchdown run by Brenden Lytton early in the third quarter put the Blue Devils up 24-6, but RMU posted 21 straight points to take the lead.
The Colonials connected on a field goal by Hunter Khaleghi to cut the deficit to 24-9. RMU added a 25-yard scoring pass to Nic Lamica early in the fourth quarter, then a field goal by Khaleghi and then with 3:49 left to play an 11-yard scoring pass from Derik Abbott to Duane Mitchell to go ahead 25-24.
The Colonials converted the two-point attempt to take the 27-24 lead.
The Blue Devils final chance to tie or take the lead came to an end after four penalties hampered CCSU's drive. The chance was set up when sophomore Jevon Elmore blocked a Robert Morris punt with 1:52 left to play.
Hollomon finished with 164 yards on 28 attempts and a pair of touchdowns. The two touchdowns give Hollomon 30 rushing scores for his CCSU career.
Sophomore Asia Bolling led the defense with 13 tackles and 1.5 sacks in the game. Freshman Shacor Privott also recorded a sack, while senior Josh Alaeze combined with Bolling to drop the quarterback.
Freshman Landon Reecher was also credited with a forced fumble which was recovered by junior Josh Celerin.
The Blue Devil offense finished with 340 yards of total offense. CCSU had posted 206 yards in the first half, with 113 coming on the ground.
Robert Morris posted 180 yards of total offense in the first half, but the Blue Devil defense limited the Colonials to just 55 rushing yards. RMU finished the game with 386 yards of offense.
Sophomore Ed Groth opened the scoring with a career-long 33-yard field goal on CCSU's first possession of the game.
