Central Connecticut sophomore defensive lineman Asia Bolling, who was named Northeast Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon, has added a regional and national honor to his collection of accolades. Bolling was named National Defensive Player of the Week and National Defensive Lineman of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards and Corvias ECAC FCS Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
The CCSU defense limited Saint Francis U to 173 yards of offense as the Blue Devils earned their first NEC victory of the season.
Bolling recorded eight tackles, two forced fumbles and a quarterback hurry. The sophomore defensive lineman made 4.0 hits for a loss, including a pair of strip sacks, during the 22-17 victory.
Bolling made a trio of third-down tackles which led to SFU punts. On the second play of the seecond quarter, Bolling hit SFU's Khairi Dickson, the leading rusher in the FCS, for a loss of one yard to force a punt. With the Red Flash at midfield late in the first half, the second-year Blue Devil derailed another drive by dropping the ball carrier one yard behind the line as CCSU took a 13-10 advantage into the locker room.
On Saint Francis' first offensive series of the second half, Bolling snuffed out a third-down screen pass and wrapped up Dickson for a four-yard loss.
