Rising senior Rob Hollomon was named to the preseason watch list for the top honor at the NCAA Division I FCS level.
Central Connecticut running back and kick returner Rob Hollomon was named to the preseason watch list for the Walter Payton Award on Monday morning. A rising senior, Hollomon is one of 20 student-athletes on the watch list for the award, which goes to the most outstanding player at the NCAA Division I FCS level.
Earlier this summer, Hollomon was a The Sports Network Preseason All-America First Team selection at the all-purpose position, as well as being a CFPA Running Back Award Watch List selection.
Hollomon earned the all-purpose position on the TSN Preseason All-America Third Team prior to last season. Following the season he claimed Second Team All-America honors at the All-Purpose position from TSN after leading the nation in all-purpose yards per game at the Division I FCS level. Hollomon was also a Second Team All-Northeast Conference selection at running back and at return specialist following the 2013 season.
The Philadelphia native rushed for 1,452 yards and 18 touchdowns last season, his second consecutive 1,000-yard campaign. He also had 223 receiving yards and 595 return yards to total 2,270 all-purpose yards on the season. He was the NCAA FCS Statistical Champion for all-purpose yards per game with 189.17 yards/game.
Hollomon's 1,452 yards last season rank as the third highest single-season total in school history. He also enters this season ranked third on CCSU's career rushing list with 2,556 yards.
His 1,452 rushing yards ranked 11th nationally last season at the Division I FCS level and his 18 rushing touchdowns tied for 7th on the country.
With 19 total touchdowns – 18 rushing, one receiving – last season, Hollomon finished just one score shy of the CCSU program record for touchdowns in a season.
The Sports Network will present the Heisman of the FCS on Dec. 15 at the national awards banquet.
