The Central Connecticut football team visits Hanover, New Hampshire for the first ever meeting between the Blue Devils and Dartmouth in the sport of football. Despite being separated by just 160 miles on I-91 and with both programs having over 75 years of history, the Blue Devils and Big Green have never met in football.
Series History • Today's game is the first meeting between the football programs of Central Connecticut and Dartmouth. CCSU's only other contest against the Ivy League came in 2009 when the Blue Devils traveled to Columbia.
CCSU vs. The Ivy • The Blue Devils lone game against a member of the Ivy League came in 2009 when CCSU traveled to Columbia and won 22-13.
Non-Conference • The Blue Devils are playing their fourth game and in their fourth different state this season. CCSU will play six non-conference opponents this year without playing multiple teams from any particular state. The Blue Devils opened with Towson (Maryland), then hosted Albany (New York) and traveled to Holy Cross (Massachusetts) in the first three weeks. Today, they visit Dartmouth (New Hampshire) and next week they host Rhode Island (Rhode Island). The final non-conference game will be against Howard (District of Columbia) on Nov. 15.
Holmes Over 1,000 • Senior Tyrell Holmes is only in his second year as a wide receiver, but he eclipsed 1,000 career receiving yards during Saturday's loss to Holy Cross. Holmes enters play today with 1,039 receiving yards on 59 catches. A big play threat, Holmes has a career average of 17.6 yards per catch.
More Holmes Numbers • The next receiving touchdown for senior Tyrell Holmes will be the 10th of his career, CCSU's all-time career record for receiving touchdowns is 16 held by John Mulligan (1965-66). Mulligan also holds the CCSU single-season record of 10, which he set during the 1966 season.
SanGiacomo's 3,000 • Junior quarterback Nick SanGiacomo has already thrown for 704 yards this season and during last Saturday's game he eclipsed the 3,000 passing yard mark for his career. SanGiacomo is one of eight Blue Devils to reach the 3,000-yard milestone.
Abner's Interception • Senior Chris Abner's interception on Saturday against Holy Cross stopped a Crusader drive and gave the Blue Devils the momentum in the third quarter. The pick was also the first for Abner since his freshman season.
Closing in on the Record • Senior running back Rob Hollomon enters today's game with 2,824 rushing yards and he is quickly closing in on CCSU's all-time career rushing record of 3,347 set by Stan House (1994-97). The only other Blue Devils to eclipse 3,000 career rushing yards is James Mallory (2006-09) who ran for 3,245. Hollomon is just 421 yards shy of Mallory and needs just 524 to break House's record. Hollomon needs to average 58.3 yards per game over the final nine games of the season to break the record.
