Hickey Becomes CCSU Wins Leader
13-year head coach has 356 wins at CCSU
Central Connecticut head baseball coach Charlie Hickey became the school's all-time baseball wins leader with a 6-5 win in the first game of a doubleheader vs. Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon. Hickey, currently in his 13th season leading the Blue Devils, is now 356-285-5 as the head coach of the Blue Devils. The Blue Devils swept Quinnipiac over the weekend.
Hickey passed long-time head coach Hank Malinger on the all-time list. Malinger was 353-168 in 30 years spanning 1949 through 1978 leading the charge for Central Connecticut.
Hickey's success with the Blue Devils has been no secret, annually putting together one of the best teams in the region.
In his previous 12 seasons the Blue Devils have won 25 or more games 10 times, including 10 of the last 11 seasons. His teams have won four Northeast Conference Championships (2002, 2003, 2004 and 2010).
Hickey, who is in his 16th total season as a head coach at both CCSU and Providence, has a career coaching record of 462-346-5.
The Blue Devils are currently 15-9 overall and 9-3 in the NEC. They have won seven straight NEC games heading into a weekend series at Bryant on Friday.
The Blue Devils return to action at home on Wednesday, hosting Rhode Island at 3 p.m.
