Cody Brown Named Rookie/Pitcher of the Week
Freshman twirled eight innings in earning first collegiate win
Freshman southpaw Cody Brown pitched the Central Connecticut baseball team to its first victory on Sunday in a 3-2 win on the road at Navy. For his efforts he was named the Northeast Conference Pitcher and Rookie of the Week on Monday.
The rookie lefty threw 8.0 innings of two-run ball to make for a triumphant collegiate debut at Navy. Pitching the Blue Devils to a 3-2 road win over the Patriot League's defending champion, Brown struck out eight batters and walked none.
The freshman set down the first nine batters he faced in his first career start and wound up retiring the side in order five times. The Midshipmen, who are coming off a 33-win season and were tabbed to repeat as Patriot League champions, managed only four hits off Brown. Navy's only two runs came via a solo homer and a wild pitch.
The Blue Devils return to action on Wednesday on the road at Hartford beginning at 3 p.m.
