Blue Devils Drop Two at Bryant on Friday
The weekend series will finish on Saturday with a single game
The Central Connecticut baseball team dropped a pair of games on the road at Bryant University on Friday afternoon. Bryant used a one-hitter to win game one 3-0, and capped the day with a 6-2 win in the second game. The pair of losses drop Central to 15-13 overall, and 9-6 in Northeast Conference action.
The two teams will finish the weekend series with a single game on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Senior Jake Matuszak led off game one with a triple, and then the Bryant starter set down 19 straight to end the game. Matuszak was erased on the base paths on a fielder's choice, and then Central would not have another batter reach base.
Freshman lefty Cody Brown picked up just his second loss of the season, pitching six innings and allowing eight hits and just two earned runs. He struck out three and is now 4-2 on the year.
Bryant starter Craig Schlitter pitched the complete game for his third win of the season. He struck out five Blue Devils.
The Blue Devils struck first in the second game, taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning.
The first run scored on a balk, and the second came on a throwing error by the Bulldogs. Bryant answered back scoring six straight runs to come away with the sweep of the doubleheader.
They scored one in the third, two in the fourth and fifth, and one more in the sixth inning.
Blue Devil junior starter Jack Greenhouse picked up the loss on the mound, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing 10 hits and four earned runs. He struck out two.
Sophomore Anthony Turgeon and junior Mike Washburn each had a pair of hits in the game two loss.
