Ingham Named NEC Player of the Week
Recorded a win, save and batted .333 as Central won 3-of-4 from Wagner
Central Connecticut sophomore Josh Ingham was named the Northeast Conference baseball Player of the Week on Monday. Ingham and the Blue Devils went 3-2 last week, including three wins in an important NEC series win over Wagner at home.
The second-year Blue Devil delivered significant contributions from both second base and the pitcher's mound to help Central win three out of four games from the Seahawks and move into sole possession of the final NEC playoff spot.
Starting all five of Central's scheduled contests last week, including a non-league tilt with Stony Brook, at second base, Ingham put together a five-game hit streak. He moved from second base to the pitching rubber in both the series opener and finale, coming on in relief to win the former and save the latter while lowering his season ERA to 1.11 in the process.
Over the five-game sample, Ingham batted .333 (5-for-15) with three runs scored and three RBI. Throwing a total of 6.0 innings of relief, the Westchester County (NY) product allowed no runs on four hits and struck out seven batters.
He did it all in Central's series-opening, extra-inning victory over Wagner. Head coach Charlie Hickey handed him the ball to start the ninth inning of a 3-3 game and Ingham went on to spin 4.0 frames of one-hit ball. In the bottom of the 12th, the sophomore took it upon himself to put an end to the extended affair.
He singled with one out and no one on in and eventually scored the winning run of Mitch Wells' walk-off single. Ingham pitched the final 2.0 innings of the series finale, a 6-2 win for CCSU, to earn his seventh save. Before taking the mound, Ingham singled and came around to score during a three-run seventh inning that gave CCSU a 4-2 lead.
