Central Sweeps NEC Women's Cross Country Weekly Awards
Angie Rafter was named the Athlete of the Week and Brooke Morabito earned the Rookie of the Week honors.
Junior Angie Rafter and freshman Brooke Morabito of the Central Connecticut women's cross country team swept the Northeast Conference weekly awards, it was announced by the league's office Wednesday afternoon. Rafter was named the Athlete of the Week and Morabito earned the Rookie of the Week honors.
In a field of over 150 runners, Rafter finished in first place with a time of 18:06.0 in the women's 5K at the 17th Annual Ted Owen Invitational last Saturday. The 2018 Northeast Conference Most Outstanding Performer, led the Blue Devils to a second place team finish against 19 other schools.
Morabito completed the Stanley Quarter Park course in 19:32.2. She was the first NEC freshman to complete the course and finished in 27th place overall.
Junior Megan Brawner joined Rafter in making the women's cross country Prime Performers list after a sixth place finish with a time of 18:32.2 at at the Ted Owen Invite.
The Blue Devils compete next at the New England Championships on Saturday, Oct. 12 in Boston, MA.
