Perry, Morabito Win Events To Put Women's Track & Field in Second Place in NEC Standings After Day One
Brooke Morabito wins the 3000m while Marina Perry took first in the shot put.
CCSU is in second place after one day at the NEC Indoor Track and Field Championship. Brooke Morabito had a big kick at the end of her 3000-meter run to take home gold for Central Connecticut on Sunday afternoon. Marina Perry smashed her collegiate best in the shootout to also bring home gold and add 10 points to The Blue Devils 25 after day one.
KEY TRACK PERFORMANCES
- Brooke Morabito ran behind Stonehills Jordan Malloy until the 2600 meter mark where Morabito pulled away from the rest of the field. She ran the 3000m in 9:46.33 to finish first and claim 10 points for the Blue Devils.
- Juliana Cancellieri finished 7th in the 3000-meter run (10:16.64) to add two points to Central Connecticut's total for the day. She will also compete in the 5000m for the Blue Devils on day two.
- After their performances on day one, Nuchwara Inthasit (7.89) and Adriana Brathwaite (7.76) will compete in the 60-meter dash final.
- Brooke Morabito finished with a 5:19.73 time in the mile to earn the two seed while Ashley Dana ran a 5:11.48 and is the number one seed in the mile final.
- Tamara Rawles secured the 4th spot in the 400m dash (57.81).
- Ashley Dana is the top seed in the 800m final, running a 2:11.22.
- Tamara Rawles (25.63) will compete with Adriana Brathwaite (25.67) for Central Connecticut in the 200-meter run.
KEY FIELD PERFORMANCES
- Marina Perry earned gold in the shot put with a collegiate-best 12.9-meter throw to add 10 points to the Blue Devil total on day one.
- Wenesha Stewart placed sixth to earn three points after a collegiate-best 12.40-meter throw in the Shot put.
