Blue Devils Drop 3-1 Decision to RMU
Senior Jillian Cipriano scores the lone goal for CCSU
Senior Jillian Cipriano scored the lone goal for Central Connecticut as the women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 home decision to Robert Morris on Sunday afternoon. With the loss the Blue Devils are now 3-4-5 overall and 0-2-3 in Northeast Conference action.
The Colonials improve to 8-5-1 overall and 2-2-0 in the NEC with the victory.
An own goal provided the only scoring of the first half, as the Colonials took a 1-0 lead on the Blue Devils. On a throw in from the left sideline, Katie Austin's throw went off a pair of CCSU defenders and into the back of the net, giving RMU the lead.
A pair of goals in the second half for Ayana Davis gave Robert Morris a 3-0 edge at the 56 minute mark.
The first came after CCSU goalkeeper Nikola Deiter had a ball bounce just over her head in front of the goal and Davis sent it into the back of the net for the 2-0 lead.
Her second goal came after a turnover by the Blue Devils in their own end. She gathered the ball and scored her second goal of the contest at 56:00.
Cipriano scored her second goal of the season for the Blue Devils to cut the lead to 3-1. She took a pass from sophomore Rachel Cerrone, made a move on the end line, and then beat RMU keeper Jessica Olin to the lower left corner of the goal.
Olin finished the game with five saves, posting her seventh win of the season. Deiter made four saves in the game. Freshman Corey Medrano, seeing her first action in a Central uniform, made one save in 29:12 of action. The Blue Devils also added one team save.
Central outshot the Colonials 16-13 overall. RMU had a 9-6 edge in shots on goal.
Central remains at home for their next two games, hosting Wagner on Friday, Oct. 14 and Long Island on Sunday, Oct. 16. Both games will be played at Willow Brook Park.
