Women's Soccer Falls 2-0 to Holy Cross
Blue Devils now 1-2-1 on the season with the loss
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Holy Cross on Friday afternoon. The game was played at Fairfield University as part of the Fairfield University Classic. Central is now 1-2-1 overall with the loss, they will be in action again on Sunday vs. Syracuse at noon, also at Fairfield.
Central held a 17-8 advantage in shots, including a 10-4 edge in shots on goal. Holy Cross goalkeeper Carly McCabe made 10 saves, including one on a penalty kick attempt, to preserve the shutout.
Central keeper Nikola Deiter made a pair of saves, one in each half, for the Blue Devils. CCSU had three shots on goal in the first half, and seven in the second.
Gina Righini scored the first goal of the game for the Crusaders at 35:07.
With the score 1-0, McCabe would stop a penalty kick attempt from the Blue Devils to keep Central scoreless. The Blue Devils had controlled much of the second period prior to the penalty kick attempt. They had four shots and four corners kicks, while Holy Cross had zero shots and zero corners in the same time frame, prior to the Crusader foul which led to the penalty kick.
Senior captain Brittany Jackson's attempt was stopped by McCabe, as she dove to her left to make the save.
Eight minutes later Liz Early made it 2-0 in favor of Holy Cross.
Central is now 1-2-1 overall on the season. They return to action on Sunday at 12 p.m. vs. Syracuse in the Fairfield University Classic.
