Women's Soccer Wins Second Straight
Three Blue Devils score goals in 3-1 win over Siena
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team improved to 3-2-2 overall on the season with a 3-1 victory at home vs. Siena on Sunday afternoon. Three different Blue Devils scored goals in the victory. It was the second straight game that the Blue Devils scored three goals.
Central took a 1-0 lead on the third goal of the season from freshman Rosie Maguire. Senior Brittany Jackson fed freshman Julie Lavoie on the left hand side and Lavoie launched a shot that went off the crossbar. Maguire took the rebound and beat the keeper to the bottom right corner of the goal for the 1-0 lead at 19:40.
Central had a solid scoring chance with 19 minutes to play before halftime. Junior Leanne Hollister took a pass from Lavoie but Siena keeper Laura Ettinger was able to stop the shot just inside the box.
Senior Jillian Cipriano made it 2-0 just before halftime. She took a Siena turnover inside the box and popped it over the keeper's head for her first goal of the season and the two goal lead.
Siena cut the lead in half six minutes into the second half. Off a turnover in the Blue Devil zone, Ashleigh Barone beater Central sophomore keeper Nikola Deiter to the right side to make it 2-1.
Sophomore Allison Kelley scored her first goal of the season at 67:36 to push the lead to 3-1 in favor of the Blue Devils. Hollister sent the ball into the box, and Kelley's shot went off Ettinger into the top left corner of the goal.
Deiter finished the game with two saves, earning her third victory of the season.
Central is off for a week, and will return to action next Sunday on the road at Sacred Heart in its Northeast Conference opener. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
