Abigail Zittoun Joins CCSU Softball Program Through Team IMPACT
Zittoun is eight years old and will be a member of the Blue Devils' program.
Central Connecticut softball head coach Breanne Gleason and the program announced the addition of 8-year-old Abigail Zittoun, who joined the Blue Devils during a Draft Day celebration on Thursday on the CCSU campus. Zittoun was joined by her family and other members of the Blue Devils coaching staff and team when she signed her letter of intent at the CCSU athletics offices in Kaiser Hall.
Abigail, who is from Weatogue and one of the team's top recruits for 2019, has battled cancer since 2017. She signed her Letter of Intent to join the CCSU team for the upcoming season and as a team member, Abigail will attend Blue Devils practices, games, team dinners, events, and more.
Gleason and the Blue Devils connected with Abigail through the efforts of Team IMPACT. Team IMPACT is a national nonprofit headquartered in Boston, MA that connects children facing serious or chronic illnesses with college athletic teams, forming lifelong bonds and life-changing outcomes. Since 2011, Team IMPACT has matched more than 1,800 children with more than 600 colleges and universities in 48 states, reaching over 55,000 participating student athletes. The child joins the athletic team and the student athletes join the child's support team. Throughout the journey, the child gains strength, camaraderie and support while the student athletes experience lessons of courage, resiliency and perspective they can't learn in a classroom.
Team IMPACT has more than 1,200 teams waiting to be matched with children, ages 5-16, who have been diagnosed with a serious or chronic illness and who could benefit from becoming a member of the team. If you know a child who may be interested, visit www.goteamimpact.org for more information.
