NEC Announces Softball Preseason Poll
Central opens the 2020 season on Feb. 21 at the Tiger Classic
The Central Connecticut softball team was predicted to finish seventh this season in the 10-team Northeast Conference Coaches' Poll as announced by the league's front office on Friday, January, 31. The LIU Sharks were chosen as the favorite to win the NEC Championship for the 2020 season receiving seven first place votes.
Saint Francis U (2) and Sacred Heart (1) also earn first place nods coming in second and third respectively in the poll. Following the Pioneers was Mount St. Mary's, Bryant and Robert Morris. Following the Blue Devils was Fairleigh Dickinson and Wagner. Rounding out the preseason poll was the NEC newcomer Merrimack.
Last season, Central Connecticut finished the year 17-24 overall and 4-12 in conference play. Head coach Breanne Gleason begins her seventh season at the helm with a 129-134-1 overall record through six seasons as head coach. The Blue Devils open the 2020 season on February 21-23 at the Tennessee State Tiger Classic. In the tournament, Central will battle Bowling Green, Rider, Tennessee State and Creighton.
CCSU hosts Manhattan for a pair of games for its home-opener at the CCSU Softball Field in New Britain, CT on March 11 starting at 1 p.m. Central's Northeast Conference opener will feature a double-header versus Wagner on March 28.
