Men's Soccer Falls 1-0 at St. Francis Brooklyn
Blue Devils now 1-2-1 in NEC play
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 overtime decision on the road at St. Francis Brooklyn on Friday night. The Blue Devils are now 5-7-2 overall and 1-2-1 in Northeast Conference play.
Neither team could find the back of the net in regulation and for the first 9:42 of the first overtime period. With 18 seconds left in the first extra period the Terriers finally solved Central's senior goalkeeper Josef Abele and posted the game-winning goal. Salvatore Barone's second goal of the season gave the Terriers the home victory over the Blue Devils.
Abele was spectacular in net all night for the Blue Devils, posting a season-high nine saves before allowing the game's only score in the final seconds. The Terriers held a 20-6 edge in shots in the match, including 10-1 in shots on goal. They also had eight corner kicks vs. zero for the Blue Devils.
The Blue Devils will return to action on Oct. 31 on the road at Robert Morris beginning at 3 p.m. They will stay in Western Pennsylvania and play at St. Francis U on Sunday, Nov. 2, at 1 p.m. The final regular season game of the year will come at home vs. Bryant on Nov. 9 at 1 p.m.
