Men's Soccer Falls to Navy on Saturday
Blue Devils play at UMass Lowell on Tuesday night
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 home decision to Navy on Saturday afternoon. With the loss the Blue Devils are now 1-2 overall on the season. Navy, who won over #10 Maryland earlier this season, is now 3-1-1 overall with the win
The game was delayed for 13 minutes in the first half when the lightning detection system was activated on the field. Following the delay the Midshipmen took a 1-0 lead on the first goal of the season from Matt Saunders. Saunders scored in the 16th minute to put the visitors in the lead.
Navy took a 2-0 lead on the third goal of the season from Jamie Dubyoski in the 27th minute, but the Blue Devils responded. After bringing the ball inside the box, Navy attempted a clear. Senior Stephen Walmsley stopped the ball at the top of the box and made a quick one touch pass to classmate Keir Hannity. Hannity gathered and quickly beat the Navy keeper to the top left of the goal, cutting the lead in half.
The Midshipmen scored the only goal of the second half when Daniel Camuti took a feed from Dubyoski at the top of the box and he beat Central keeper Josef Abele to the lower left corner with just under six minutes to play in the match.
Abele finished the game with a pair of saves but suffered his first loss of the season. Navy keeper Mac Burke made three saves to earn the victory.
Navy held a 10-8 advantage in shots, including 5-4 in shots on goal. Central had the 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
The Blue Devils are in action again on Tuesday night on the road at UMass-Lowell beginning at 7 p.m.
