Men's Soccer Plays to 2-2 Draw With FDU
Blue Devils are in action again on Friday night at St. Francis Brooklyn
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team played to a 2-2 double overtime draw at home on Saturday against Northeast Conference foe Fairlleigh Dickinson. With the tie the Blue Devils are now 5-6-2 overall and 1-1-1 in NEC action. The draw was the second of the week.
FDU is now 3-8-2 overall and is also 1-1-1 in league play.
The Knights struck first on a well executed corner kick with 26:22 left in the first half. Christian Dietrich fed Jorge de la Bandera for the score. It was de la Bandera's first goal of the season.
FDU held the shot advantage in the first half, but the Blue Devils answered in the second half, forcing the Knight goalkeeper to make three key saves early in the period.
The Blue Devils got on the board after continually attacking the FDU net. After a foul near the top left of the box, freshman Filosmar Cordeiro took a free kick and fired the ball into classmate Luke Albertini. Albertini headed it to the lower right corner of the goal for his first goal of the season, tying the game with just under 26 minutes to play in the second half.
FDU wasted little time answering the Blue Devil goal. Just one minute and 27 second later the Knights took a 2-1 lead on the third goal of the season for Enver Caymaz. Caymaz took a pass from Itai Erez down the left side and then left-footed a ball just inside the left post, past CCSU keeper Josef Abele, to re-take the lead.
Cordeiro tied the game with his second goal of the season with 10:19 left in the 2nd half. He fed senior Keir Hannity, who then fed it back to Cordeiro who beat the FDU keeper to tie the game, 2-2.
Abele made three saves in goal in the draw. FDU keeper Matthew Weigner had four.
The Blue Devils will return to action again on Friday night, on the road, at St. Francis Brooklyn beginning at 7 p.m.
