The Central Connecticut men's soccer team played Bryant to a 0-0 draw today at Willow Brook Park. The Blue Devils are now 3-7-2 on the season and 0-3-2 in NEC play. Goalkeeper Anthony Occhialini made two saves in the match.
In the first half Bryant took the ball quickly, and had an excellent scoring chance off of a free kick. Bryant put a shot into the goal, but it was disallowed because of an offsides penalty. Central managed two shots in the period and Bryant only one.
In the second half the offenses picked up the pace. Central and Bryant both had a pair of shots, Occhialini saved both of the Bryant shots on goal.
Bryant was aggressive in the first overtime taking three shots, but only one was on the goal. Senior Connor Smith saved the game for the Blue Devils with his heads up play. Standing at the corner of the goal Smith headed away a short shot that was passed the goal keeper and would have won the game for Bryant.
Central played exceptional defense on the afternoon, allowing Bryant only two real scoring chances. The first came in the first five minutes of the match and the second in the first over time, but Central was up to the challenge on both occasions.
The Blue Devils return to action Thursday, when they host Fairleigh Dickinson at Willow Brook Park.
