The first half ended in a tie with sophomore goalkeeper Anthony Occhialini making a pair of key saves for the Blue Devils. The Blue Devils managed three shots on goal in the period, one each by Robert Cavener, Eduardo Ortiz, and Andrew Ferrucci.
The second half saw the Mount take control and score quickly. Less than eight minutes into the period Will Thomas dribbled towards the goal before passing to Eric Detzel who quickly redirected the ball across the net beating the goalkeeper to the far right corner.
The Blue Devils responded by forcing the action towards the Mount St. Mary's half of the pitch. The Blue Devils had a number of good crossing passes defended by the Mount's back line. Cavener and Ortiz each recorded a shot on goal in the final minutes but both were saved by goalkeeper Chris Davis.
Detzel's goal proved to be the winner and Mount St. Mary's defeated Central 1-0, on a very soft rain soaked field. Mount St. Mary's improves to 4-5 on the season and 1-0 in NEC action.
The Blue Devils will return to action on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. on Arute Field.
